HOSTELS FOR WORKING WOMEN

There are 500 Working Women Hostels functional in the country. State-wise list of functional hostels is placed at Annexure I. District-wise details of hostels functional in Rajasthan are placed at Annexure II.                                                                    State-wise, year-wise total amount of Central funds disbursed to the hostels since 2014 is placed at Annexure III. No new proposal for construction/rent of Working Women Hostel has been received from the State of Rajasthan since 2014-15 till date.                            State-wise total capacity of such hostels along with number of residents and vacancies in the functional hostels is placed at Annexure I. District-wise such details for the State of Rajasthan is at Annexure II.                                                                                     Working Women Hostels is a demand driven scheme and sanction for new hostels is given on receipt of proposals from the State Government/UT Administration as per Scheme Guidelines. Provision has been made, inter-alia, for single women and students undergoing training or pursuing higher education to avail Working Women Hostel facility in the revised scheme under the new Mission Shakti.                                                                     Government has not received any information on the closure of Working Women Hostels during the Covid-19 pandemic induced lockdown. As per Scheme Guidelines, financial assistance is provided for construction/running hostel in rented premises and regular maintenance/running of the Working Women Hostels is done by the implementing agency.   This information was given by the Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
