The people of India today trust those political parties who have good intentions and fulfil the aspirations of the people and prioritise development – Prime Minister Modi.
The emphatic victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar has not only strengthened the alliance but also further enhanced the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its main vote puller. As the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan licks its wounds and tries to pull itself together the one lesson that stands out after the verdict is that people, whose aspirations have remained suppressed for a long time, will only bless a party or political combine capable of turning their dreams into reality. They want political parties with good intentions.
“The results of the Bihar elections have once again taught a lesson on the high aspirations and ambitions of the people of India. The people of India today trust those political parties who have good intentions and fulfil the aspirations of the people and prioritise development,” the Prime Minister said recently at a function.
Modi said the BJP wins elections because it is committed to the development and welfare of the people 24/7. “One needs to be always in emotional mode to work for people, not election mode, to win elections,” he said.
The people of Bihar have delivered a mandate whose political import goes well beyond the arithmetic of seats. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 202 of the 243 seats in the Legislative Assembly, while the Bharatiya Janata Party alone secured 89 seats, its best-ever performance in the state. The Mahagathbandhan fell to just 35 seats after having dominated Bihar’s politics for decades in various combinations.
A turnout of 67.13 percent out of more than 7.4 crore registered voters made it one of the most intensely contested elections in the state’s recent history. This election was also different as this is new Bihar where assumptions of caste and social demography do not mechanically translate into votes and decide the outcome. The grammar of politics in Bihar has changed.
The PM said, “A strong democracy is tested on many parameters, one of the most significant being public participation. The level of people’s confidence and optimism in democracy is most visible during elections. The recent Bihar poll results announced on November 14 were historic.”
“A crucial aspect stood out in the Bihar poll — no democracy can afford to ignore the increasing participation of its citizens. He pointed out that this time, Bihar recorded the highest turnout in its history, with women’s turnout approximately nine percent higher than that of men. This too is a victory of democracy,” said Modi.
The Prime Minister said the Bihar poll result also demonstrates the high aspirations of the people of India. “Today, citizens place their trust in political parties that work with sincerity to fulfil those aspirations and prioritise development. Every state government — regardless of ideology — must take note of the lesson from Bihar’s results. The kind of governance delivered today will determine the future of political parties in the years to come,” he said.
The PM pointed out that the Opposition was given 15 years by the people of Bihar. While they had the opportunity to contribute significantly to the state’s development, they chose the path of ‘jungle raj’, he said. “The people of Bihar will never forget this betrayal. Whether it is the Central Government or governments led by various parties in the states, development must be the highest priority. All state governments should compete in creating better investment environments, improving ease of doing business, and advancing development parameters. Such efforts will earn the trust of the people,” he said.
“When there is an inner restlessness to not waste even a minute, to reduce the hardships of the poor, to provide employment, to ensure healthcare, and to fulfil the aspirations of the middle class, then continuous hard work becomes the driving force. When governance is carried out with this emotion and commitment, the results are visible on election day, as was recently witnessed in Bihar,” he said.
